We've made posting listings on
WightLocal.com simple, but since
we're dealing with computers and
the Internet, someone's going to
hit a snag. Here in the
WightLocal help we've gathered
up solutions to some of the most
common problems.

What is WightLocal.com? |
|
|
|
Wight Local
is a service created for individuals who have
their own hobby, business, local event or
charity and giving them the chance to post it on the
internet for others to view. We've created an
online directory which allows people to look up
a favourite restaurant, browse through holiday
venues, rate and review night clubs, pubs and
eateries all online for free. We feel it's
easier to type than to look through a book. |
|
|
|
Is WightLocal.com free to use? |
|
|
|
Yes, Wight Local is completely
free and will
always be free, Guaranteed. We offer members the
chance to post an unlimited amount of listings
into our directory with no charge or hidden
costs. |

|
Who can help me with a complaint I have about a
listing / business or member on WightLocal.com? |
|
|
|
Wight Local is a friendly and competitive place to
advertise your personal listings. Occasionally a member may 'cross the line' as far as acceptable
behaviour. We do have very specific guidelines in our
terms
of use policy of what is considered 'acceptable'
behaviour. If you have concerns about another member's
behaviour, you
can report them to our
Support staff by using the e-mail form on the right. |
|
|
|
Why has my listing disappeared after I have added /
edited it? |
|
|
|
If one day your listing is pending and then the
next it's been removed it probably means that it
was disapproved by one of our support staff
members. This may be due to the fact that the
terms
of use
policy was broken when you
submitted your listing. If you think there is an
error with your listing being removed, please
contact our support staff. |

What is a Meta Tag? |
|
|
|
It is information inserted into the "head" area of
your web pages. Other than the title tag, information in
the head area of your web pages is not seen by those
viewing your pages in browsers. Instead, meta
information in this area is used to communicate
information that a human visitor may not be concerned
with. Meta tags, for example, can tell a browser what
"character set" to use or whether a web page has
self-rated itself in terms of adult content. |
|
|
|
How do I implement Meta Tags? |
|
|
|
Meta tags are easy to implement. Open your homepage in
some sort of HTML editor, or even notepad will do. Here
are two common types of meta tags, then we'll discuss
exactly how they are used in more depth:
<head>
<title>This
is my Title</title>
<meta
Name="description"
content="This
is my description">
<meta
Name="keywords"
content="Keyword,
Sample Keyword, Keyword 3, More Keywords">
</head>
|
|
|
|
In the example above, you can see the beginning of the page's "head"
area as noted by the HEAD tag -- it ends at the portion shown as /HEAD.
Meta tags go in between the "opening" and "closing" HEAD tags. Shown in
the example is a TITLE tag, then a META DESCRIPTION tag, then a META
KEYWORDS tag. |
